The Shure SM7dB gives content creators and audio engineers the same rugged construction and legendary audio quality as the SM7B, with the addition of a Shure-designed, phantom-powered built-in preamp. The integrated preamp adds +18 or +28 decibels (dB) of clean gain, eliminating the need for an external preamp and avoiding the hiss and noise produced by many audio interfaces when their preamps work at the levels needed to provide sufficient gain for the SM7B. Built-in preamp Inside the SM7dB is a preamp custom-designed by Shure, providing enough output to work with any XLR interface. Delivering up to +28 dB of transparent, flat, low-noise gain, the built-in preamp preserves the microphone's frequency response for a clean, classic sound. All you need is an interface or mixer offering +48 V phantom power to operate the preamp. Gain level Choose a boost of +18 dB or +28 dB from the preamp. Miking loud sound sources such as a guitar cabinet or snare drum? Use +18 dB or bypass the preamp for the original SM7B output level. Podcasting or recording quiet vocals? Select the full built-in boost of +28 dB. Bypass switch A convenient bypass mode lets you skip the built-in preamp if you prefer to send the microphone's unamplified signal to your professional console or interface. The microphone retains its excellent audio characteristics. Bypassing the preamp returns the SM7dB to the original SM7B's performance.
